Herderick is Director of R&D at rapid prototype + manufacturing (rp+m, rpplusm.com) in Avon Lake, Ohio. rp+m was founded in 2009 to provide state of the art additive manufacturing technology to clients through contract manufacturing and services. Ed’s role is focused on managing R&D activities that expand rp+m product and service offerings while identifying and capturing strategic growth opportunities to enhance world leading technical excellence.

Prior to joining rp+m, Ed was the Director of the Additive Manufacturing Consortium and a Materials Engineer at EWI in Columbus, Ohio. As Director, Ed was responsible for coordinating a consortium of industry, government and academic partners and for formulating and executing EWI’s strategic development plan for additive manufacturing.

Prior to joining EWI, Ed served as the Materials Societies Congressional Fellow, cosponsored by ACerS, TMS, and MRS. As such, he worked on Capitol Hill in the office of US Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio as a special legislative assistant supporting Senator Brown’s work on manufacturing, technology and energy issues.

Ed received his PhD from The Ohio State University in Materials Science and Engineering under the advisement of Professor Nitin P. Padture.  His graduate work was recognized by the Basic Science Division with a GEMS Diamond Award.  He is an active member of ACerS serving on the Member Services Committee, volunteering support for the Young Leaders program, and in the Engineering Ceramics Division.
