Cinibulk is Research Leader of Ceramic Materials and Processes in the Composites Branch of the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Materials and Manufacturing Directorate at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, OH where he is responsible for the direction of in-house research focused on the development, processing, and characterization of high-temperature structural ceramics. Prior to that he was Technical Advisor of the Ceramics Branch where he was responsible for developing the technology investment strategy for the branch and for oversight of technology development. As a Sr. Materials Research Engineer he was involved with technical program management and conducting basic and applied research. Prior to joining the civil service in 2000, Mike was a Research Scientist with UES, Inc. conducting research at AFRL on oxide ceramic matrix composites. He began his career at SRI International.

Mike received his B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Materials Science Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He spent two years as a postdoctoral fellow at the Max-Planck Institute in Stuttgart, Germany.

Honors include the American Ceramic Society’s Richard M. Fulrath Award and a Visiting Professorship at the University of Bayreuth, Germany. He has authored/coauthored over 80 publications, serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Ceramic Society and Materials Letters, and is a member of the Society’s Engineering Ceramics Division.
