Qiyang Lu

Qiyang Lu is currently a postdoctoral associate at Materials Science and Technology Division, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). He received his PhD degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2018, and BS degree from Tsinghua University in 2012, both in Materials Science and Engineering. During the PhD study at MIT, Qiyang was under the supervision of Prof. Bilge Yildiz. His PhD thesis is focused on controlling properties of functional oxides via tuning of oxygen defect chemistry. He used advanced in situ and in operando experimental capabilities, especially ambient pressure X-ray spectroscopic tools at synchrotron facilities, to study the changes of (electro-)chemical properties induced by oxygen defects. Qiyang received Graduate Student Gold Award from Materials Research Society in 2017. His work won the Best Poster Award at the 19^th International Solid State Ionics (SSI-19) conference in 2013. His research at ORNL will focus on the intricate interactions between point defects, strain and electronic structures at oxide interfaces and heterostructures.
