ChungSai-Cheong Chung, who was born and grew up in Hong Kong, graduated and obtained his doctoral degree from the Lehrstuhl für Theoretische Chemie of the Technische Universität München in 1997. He then joined the Material Research Laboratories of the Sony Corporation in Japan in 1998 as a research scientist. He has since then participated in the development of energy related devices such as rechargeable alkali-ion batteries, fuel cells and capacitors. In 2011, he joined the University of Tokyo as a senior researcher. He has published about 40 papers and holds two patents. His main interests are the development of materials for energy related devices and material simulation by atomistic computational methods.
