This year, the Ceramic Education Council (CEC) (a class of The American Ceramic Society) in collaboration with ACerS’ President’s Council of Student Advisors (PCSA) will continue a program designed to help foster relationships between students, academia, and industry. We received feedback that students do not have many industrial connections and had a lot of unanswered questions about working in industry and future career paths.

At the Materials Science and Technology 2015 (MS&T15) in Columbus, OH, we are planning a “Lunch with Industry” event.  We are pairing industry and national lab professionals with students for a lunch discussion.  This will give students a chance to ask candid questions in an informal, intimate setting about careers in materials science.  Lunch is the responsibility of each participant, and the CEC is simply linking students with industry/national lab volunteers.  Past professional volunteers included employees from Mo-Sci, Corning Incorporated, PPG, General Electric, Saint Gobain and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

If you are a student and interested in eating lunch with an industry professional during your lunchtime on Wednesday, October 7, 12 -1 p.m., at MS&T15, contact Dr. Shen Dillon to reserve your spot no later than September 30, 2015.  This opportunity is on a first come, first served basis as we have to limit the number of students based on our number of volunteers.  We will arrange a meeting place and time at the conference center.
