Deadline extended!  Apply by March 6, 2015!

The American Ceramic Society (ACerS) is seeking U.S. based graduate and undergraduate students who are interested in attending the European Ceramic Society’s (ECerS) Summer School program, which will be held June 17 – 19, 2015, in Madrid, Spain.  ACerS is planning to provide partial financial support to students from the United States to participate in the Summer School program and the 14th International Conference of the ECerS, which is taking place in Toledo, Spain, June 21 – 25.

The topic of this ACerS supported Summer School Program is Ceramic and Glass Science and Technology, Application to Bioceramics and Bioglasses.  Up to 100 students from around the world are expected to participate.  The Program focuses on state of the art and new processing methods for the industrial production of ceramic products for healthcare and clinical applications, with insights into interactions between biomaterials and human tissue (especially bone) and on structural integrity over the longer term.  This is a very unique opportunity for students and young researchers to meet and learn from internationally recognized experts.

In addition to participating at the Summer School Program, students will be asked to participate in the 14th International Conference of the ECerS and present research as a talk or poster on one of the following topics:

  • Bioceramics
  • Ceramic Composites
  • Refractories

Although general abstract submittal is closed for the ECerS Conference, students participating in the ECerS-ACerS Summer School Program are able to submit an abstract for the ECerS Conference as part of their application for ACerS support.  A presentation is not required but encouraged.

Estimated Costs:
ACerS estimates that it will cost approximately $2,750 for a student to attend the Summer School and the ECerS meeting. The registration for the highly subsidized Summer School program is 250 € (~$325), which includes accommodations and meals. The ECerS Conference registration is €320 (~$425), which includes daily lunch and breaks. Other expenses, including hotel at the conference, airfare, etc. are estimated at approximately $2,000.

ACerS Financial Support:
ACerS will provide partial financial support (to be determined) for United States students interested in attending this important program. Universities of participating students will be expected to also provide partial support for their students.
