2017 AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED:

Congratulations to the 2017 Award Winners! The bios and photos of the 2017 award recipients are posted on the awards webpages and the awardees were featured in the September 2017 issue of the Bulletin

 

The awards were presented October 9 at the ACerS Honors and Awards Banquet at MS&T 2017 in Pittsburgh, PA, USA.  

 

New for 2018: ACerS GLOBAL DISTINGUISHED DOCTORAL DISSERTATION AWARD

Nomination Deadline: January 15, 2018

 

The purpose of this award is to recognize a distinguished doctoral dissertation in the ceramics and glass discipline. The awardee must have been a member of the Global Graduate Researcher Network (GGRN) and have completed a doctoral dissertation as well as all other graduation requirements set by their institution for a doctoral degree within 12 months prior to the application deadline. Award nomination deadline for the 2017 awards was January 15, 2017.

 

2019 CLASS OF FELLOWS:

Note that the deadline for the 2019 Class of Fellows is August 30, 2018.

 

Division, Section, and Class members should check below or with their respective groups to determine award nomination deadlines since a few of them are still open.


Refractory Ceramics Division: Alfred W. Allen Award

This biennial award was established to honor Alfred W. Allen’s legacy as an educator, technical contributor and supporter of the Refractory Ceramics Division. The award committee will review the technical literature of the last two years and select the author(s) of the technical paper on refractory ceramics that reflects the highest level of technical quality.

ACerS/EPDC: Arthur L. Friedberg Ceramic Engineering Tutorial and Lecture

This ACerS/Education and Professional Development Council (EPDC) lecture honors the memory of Arthur L. Friedberg for his teaching, research and numerous contributions to the ceramic engineering profession. The lecture is intended to provide a tutorial that reviews and instructs in some area of ceramics with a distinct engineering flavor. The lecture is presented at a level that is accessible to all ceramists.

ACerS/EPDC: Greaves-Walker Lifetime Service Award

The Greaves-Walker Lifetime Service Award honors a founding member and the first president of the National Institute of Ceramic Engineers (NICE); currently, the newly formed Education and Professional Development Council (EPDC). It is presented to an individual who has rendered outstanding service to the ceramic engineering profession and who, by life and career, has exemplified the aims, ideals and purpose of EPDC.

Manufacturing Division: John E. Marquis Memorial Award

John Marquis Award shall be presented to the author or authors of the paper on research, engineering or plant practices relating to Manufacturing published in the prior calendar year in a publication of the SOCIETY, which is judged to be of greatest value to the members and to the industry. A purpose of the award shall be to encourage and stimulate the writing and publication of such papers in publications of the SOCIETY. All members of the SOCIETY shall be eligible for consideration for the award
