Kevin Fox

Dr. Kevin M. Fox is a Senior Scientist and Acting Manager in the Environmental Management Directorate of Savannah River National Laboratory in Aiken, South Carolina.

Fox holds a Bachelor’s in Ceramic Engineering from Alfred University and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University.  He is an adjunct professor at Clemson University in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.  He studied Spark Plasma Sintering of ceramic-metal composites at Nihon University in Japan as the recipient of a National Science Foundation fellowship, and has previous experience as an engineer at OSRAM Sylvania in the development and production of alumina arc tubes for sodium vapor lamps.  Fox has authored 14 peer-reviewed publications, co-edited 3 volumes, and given more than 30 technical society presentations on topics ranging from high-temperature X-ray diffraction studies of fuel cell cathode materials to metal/ceramic cutting tools with tailored residual stress states to the high temperature mechanical performance of non-oxide ceramics.  He is the current Chair of the ACerS Nuclear and Environmental Technology Division, President of the Ceramic Education Council, and Treasurer of the Keramos National Board of Directors.

Fox’s current research focus is on the development of innovative compositions for the immobilization of high level nuclear wastes in glass, as well as ceramic waste forms for the safe disposition of by-products from commercial nuclear fuel recycling.  He has a background in structure/property relationships in ceramic materials, with a focus on high temperature deformation of ceramic composites and advanced microstructural characterization.
