Postdoctoral Position Available at the University of Tennessee - Knoxville
A postdoctoral position is presently available at the Department of Nuclear Engineering of the University of Tennessee-Knoxville (UTK). This position will involve a significant component of research that will be carried out at the nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

 

The applicants must have an earned doctorate in materials science or a closely related field. Candidates are sought with experience in the areas of the synthesis and characterization of glasses or composite materials for optical applications - including radiation detection. Experience is desired in the preparation of glasses, or composite materials, starting with the component powders and extending to the detailed characterization of optical properties. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing materials in controlled environmental conditions and for developing methods for their synthesis, then reporting these results in journal publications. The ability to perform research and development in a collaborative environment is required, including excellent oral and written communication skills. The initial appointment is for a period of 12 months with the possibility of renewal for up to an additional 12 months.
