Ardagh Group to shutter Salem facility

Ardagh Group is to close its Salem, N.J., glass container facility on or after October 15, 2014, due to the loss of significant business at the facility. The Salem glass manufacturing facility is one of 16 the company operates in North America, and has approximately 290 employees that will be affected by the closing.

Frigoglass to integrate manufacturing at European flagship plant

Frigoglass has announced the integration of its Turkey-based manufacturing volume into its European flagship plant in Timisoara, Romania. As part of this process, Frigoglass’ Silivri-based Turkish manufacturing plant will cease operations by the end of 2014. 

Severstal to sell two U.S. steel plants

Russia’s Severstal said it would sell two U.S. steel plants for $2.3 billion, withdrawing from the U.S. market at a time of rising tension between Russia and the West and turning its focus to its domestic business. Severstal will sell its Columbus unit in Mississippi and Dearborn unit in Michigan to Steel Dynamics and AK Steel Corp, respectively, a sale that may allow the Russian company pay an extra dividend and reduce debt.
