The Nuclear & Environmental Technology Division of ACerS explores applications of ceramics in nuclear energy production and medicine. Current uses of ceramics in this field include fuel and absorber materials for fission reactors as isotopic heat sources, and matrices for safe immobilization of nuclear and hazardous waste materials.

The NETD Best Paper Award is open to anyone who presents a paper in an NETD-sponsored symposium at the ACerS Annual Meeting/MS&T and submits the paper for publication in the proceedings. The award, which consists of an engraved plaque, is presented at the NETD Annual Business Meeting the year following the presentation of the paper.

D.T. Rankin Award – Deadline for Nominations: June 15, 2011

 

This award recognizes a member of the Nuclear & Environmental Technology Division who has demonstrated exemplary service to the division. The award honors Tom Rankin’s memory and service to the division, and will be presented at the division business meeting held in conjunction with the ACerS Annual Meeting.

Student Stipend for MS&T’12/ACerS 114th Annual Meeting 
The Nuclear & Environmental Technology Division of The American Ceramic Society is sponsoring stipends in the amount of $250 to help fund students in attending MS&T 2012 combined with the ACerS 114th Annual Meeting, October 7-11, 2012, in Pittsburgh, PA, USA. These stipends are targeted at deserving students with current or future interests in the nuclear and/or environmental fields of ceramic and materials engineering. Student participation in NETD sponsored symposia through an oral or poster presentation is encouraged but not required. The nomination form should be completed by any student and recognized by a faculty member familiar with the student’s academic performance. Please complete the nomination form and return it to Dr. Allen Apblett.

 

Deadline to apply has been EXTENDED to September 15, 2012.
