Mentoring Program
The ACerS Mentoring Program matches experienced engineers, scientists, educators, and business professionals with graduate students and young professionals in the ceramic materials field.
Mentor/mentee matches are based on:
- Focus areas (e.g. electronics, energy, glass, etc.)
- Career path (e.g. academia, business, research, etc.)
- Geographic proximity (optional)
A mentor can:
- Provide career advice and guidance
- Recommend technical meetings and workshops to attend, as well as counsel your mentee on continuing education coursework
- Suggest volunteer leadership opportunities
- Explore publishing opportunities for the mentee’s research
- Introduce mentees to professional colleagues
- Discuss current research and developments in your field of expertise
- Provide feedback on projects and grant applications
- Host a mentee at a conference or in your laboratory or plant
If you’d like to become a mentor, please complete the mentor application.
A mentee can:
- Request guidance in almost any area, including help with your resume or input on your career goals
- Ask for advice about technical meetings to attend, publishing opportunities, volunteer leadership opportunities, or continuing education coursework
- Explore and exchange ideas with your mentor on current research, trends, and developments in the field of ceramic materials and technologies
If you’d like to be paired up with a mentor, please complete the mentee application today!
Tip About Applying
Indicate more than one area of interest to facilitate pairings of mentors and mentees. This will help us find the most compatible match.
Communication
The mentor-mentee relationship is largely based on phone and email contact, or may include face-to-face meetings if convenient and desirable to both parties. Mentees should either be in graduate school or within the first five years of their career.
