WESTERVILLE, OHIO, January 8, 2008 — The American Ceramic Society (ACerS) in conjunction with the ACerS Engineering Ceramics and Basic Science Divisions are hosting the 32nd International Conference and Exposition on Advanced Ceramics and Composites in Daytona Beach, Florida happening January 27 through February 1, 2008.
This is the leading conference and exposition on advanced ceramics and composites and includes topical sessions on Nanotechnology, Fuel Cells, Ceramic Armor and more. This conference boasts eleven symposia and two focused sessions comprised of more than 800 technical presentations and posters discussing the latest advances, applications and successes in advanced ceramics and composites.
Key scientists, technologists, engineers and entrepreneurs are expected to come together to discover and exchange cutting-edge information. More than 85 exhibitors showcasing materials, equipment and supplies are participating in this event.
“The vibrant growth of this conference continues to benefit both the advanced ceramics and composites communities. More importantly, these benefits enrich the lives of those outside our communities and throughout the general populace,” said Andy Wereszczak, 2008 Program Chairperson.
This conference and exposition is designed to be highly interactive and promote information exchange among scientists, technologists, engineers, entrepreneurs and exhibitors involved in advanced ceramics. An application-oriented technical program has been developed which features presentations on these symposia topics:
• Development and Applications of Nanostructured Materials – featuring the results of current basic and applied research with emphasis on methods and potential commercial applications.
• Solid Oxide Fuel Cells – discussing recent technical progress on materials-related aspects of fuel cells and emerging trends in electrochemical materials, cell/stack fabrication and design, interface engineering and long-term chemical interactions.
• Ceramic Armor – continuing the search for novel materials concepts for both vehicle and body armors, transparent ceramics for impact resistance and addressing the challenges facing manufacturers.
• Mechanical Behavior and Structural Design of Ceramic Materials – discussing global perspective on fatigue, fracture, deformation behavior, and life prediction of emerging composite and monolithic brittle materials at the macro and micro scales.
• Thermoelectric Materials for Power Conversion Applications – covering recent advances in thermoelectric, thermionic, and thermophotovoltaic materials.
• Bioceramics and Biocomposites – exploring medical applications, physical properties and processing of these materials.
• Advanced Ceramic Coatings – focusing on recent advances in coating development, processing, microstructure and property characterization and life prediction.
• Advanced Processing and Manufacturing Technologies – featuring advances in a variety of non-oxide and oxide-based structural ceramics and multifunctional materials.
• Porous Ceramics – focusing on processing, characterization, modeling, and properties evaluation.
• Basic Science of Multifunctional Ceramics – featuring technologies that show an inherent physical or spatial coupling to an applied physical field (electrical, thermal, chemical, mechanical, etc.).
• Science of Ceramic Interfaces: An International Symposium Memorializing Dr. Rowland M. Cannon – including topics such as grain boundary structure and chemistry as relates to grain boundary films in ceramics and fundamental studies of interfaces as they relate to applications such as solid oxide fuel cells, thin films and structural joints.
• Focused Sessions – special sessions focusing on geopolymers and materials for solid state lighting.
