Richard Brook, director, Leverhulme Trust, United Kingdom
Dr. Richard Brook studied ceramics science at the University of Leeds, UK, and at MIT. He taught at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, before joining the British Atomic Energy laboratory at Harwell. Following time as head of the Ceramics Department back at Leeds, he became a Director at the Max Planck Institute for Metals Research in Stuttgart, Germany. After returning to the UK to the University of Oxford, he later moved from research to the financial support of research, first as Chief Executive at the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and then as Director at a private agency, the Leverhulme Trust. Brook is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Ceramic Society. He is the founding Editor of the Journal of the European Ceramic Society.
