Navy files for patent on room-temperature superconductor

A scientist working for the U.S. Navy filed for a patent on a room-temperature superconductor. The application claims the superconductor can be built using a wire with an insulator core and an aluminum lead zirconate titanate coating deposited by vacuum evaporation and polarized after deposition. No data was included in the patent documents.

£7 million funding to grant XMaS wish

The XMaS (X-ray Materials Science) beamline, which is a National Research Facility, received £7.2 million to upgrade and operate the beamline. The facility works with over 90 active research groups to examine materials for purposes as diverse as reducing corrosion on metal artifacts to regrowing teeth from stem cells.

Kinestral Technologies, Inc. announced its Halio® smart-tinting glass product passed the National Renewable Energy Laboratories’ testing procedures according to ASTM E2141-06 test methodology, which is required to meet ASTM E2953 standard for electrochromic product durability. Their glass is the only next-generation product to meet this standard.

New research initiative will power up Europe’s battery revolution

The Battery 2030+ project, which currently includes 17 partners in nine European countries, was selected for a Coordination and Support Action grant under the Horizon 2020 programme. Over a period of one year (starting in March 2019), Battery 2030+ will lay the basis for a 10-year, large-scale, and long-term European research project.
