GE Aviation to expand Auburn facility, adding 60 jobs

GE Aviation plans to invest $50 million in its Auburn facility to expand additive manufacturing. The facility was the first in the aerospace industry to mass produce a jet engine component using 3D printing. The expansion will create 60 jobs and will allow the factory to launch high volume production of a second engine part.

Spanish consortium 3DCons develops 3D printing systems for construction research

3DCons, a Spanish construction consortium, completed a collaborative 3D printing research and development project aimed at developing innovative 3D printing systems and materials for construction. The consortium, led by Spanish construction company Vias y Construcciones, has been working on the project for over three years.

Bormioli Pharma plans Italian plant investment

Pharmaceutical glassmaker Bormioli Pharma wants to invest in its San Vito al Tagliamento, Italy factory. The group plans to invest €22 million with the aim of increasing turnover from €20 million to €28 million. Work will start in August 2019 and reach full capacity by 2021.

IGMA announces bird deterrent glass research fund

The American Bird Conservancy (ABC) has a tunnel test that uses live birds to screen new glass products to determine whether birds can see them. The Insulating Glass Manufacturers Alliance is now working with ABC to expand ABC’s capacity for rating glass and doing research by constructing and operating a second tunnel at a new site.

DTI mulls safeguards on float glass imports

The Department of Trade and Industry in the Philippines is looking into a possible imposition of safeguard measures on float glass imports. Pioneer Float Glass Manufacturing Inc., the sole manufacturer of float glass in the country, submitted an application for safeguard measures on imports of clear and tinted float glass before DTI in July last year.

Highlight assay results included 1.77 percent lanthanum oxide, 2.34 percent cerium oxide, 0.52 percent neodymium oxide, and 0.18 percent praseodymium oxide—total of 4.81 percent light rare earth oxides.
