Liqtech receives SiC membrane order from US oil company

LiqTech International Inc. says a major U.S. oil company has ordered a LiqTech silicon carbide membrane installation to be delivered by the end of this year. The company placed the order to confirm the properties of LiqTech’s SiC membrane technology for various upstream produced water applications. LiqTech says it is currently working with more than 50 oil companies, operators, and system integrators around the world on SiC membrane projects in phases from initial evaluation to commissioning. LiqTech manufactures proprietary SiC filters for liquid and diesel particulate emissions as well as silicon carbide kiln furniture.

MesoCoat expands into Mexico, Central America

Abakan Inc., Miami, Fla., has entered the Mexican and Central American markets by signing an exclusive sales agent agreement with Metallurgic Solutions S.A. de CV (MetalSol) to introduce products from its MesoCoat subsidiary into Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama. MetalSol will also help MesoCoat establish production and service operations in Mexico for its PComP thermal spray coatings, CermaClad clad steel, and products that are currently under development. Mexico is one of the ten largest oil producers in the world and the third-largest in the Western Hemisphere, making it a promising market for MesoCoat’s products aimed at the oil and gas industry, Abakan says.

O-I wins Glass Packaging Institute awards

Owens-Illinois Inc. was recently honored by the Glass Packaging Institute as a winner of the organization’s 2013 Clear Choice Awards in four categories. The awards, which aim to recognize innovative glass packaging with shelf impact, judge entries on innovation, package design (including container label and closure), and consumer appeal. O-I products selected as winners included its packages for Kona Longboard Island Lager in the beer category, Jack Daniel’s Unaged Tennessee Rye in the spirits category, Starbucks Iced Coffee in the nonalcoholic beverage category, and a football jar for Tostitos Salsa in the food category.

TAM Ceramics sued over water bills

(Buffalo News) The Niagara Falls Water Board has filed a $2.4 million lawsuit against TAM Ceramics, a Niagara Falls manufacturer of several classes of ceramic materials, for what it claims are overdue water and sewer bills, fees, penalties, and interest. The board filed the suit in New York’s state Supreme Court last week, saying it had tried to negotiate for months with TAM. According to the suit, the company owes it $998,000 for breach of contract, $385,000 in unpaid bills from 2010 and 2011, as well as more than $1 million in other bills. TAM did not respond to a request for comment, according to the article.
