Energy department invests $20M to advance hydrogen production and delivery technologies

The Energy Department announced $20 million for ten new research and development projects that will advance hydrogen production and delivery technologies. Developing technologies that can economically produce and deliver hydrogen to power fuel cells from diverse, domestic, and renewable resources can enable substantial reductions in energy use and carbon emissions.

Energy Department invests more than $10M in efficient lighting R&D

The Energy Department also announced nine research and development projects that will receive funding to support solid-state lighting core technology research and product development. The projects will help accelerate the development of high-quality light-emitting diode (LED) and organic light-emitting diode (OLED) products that can significantly reduce energy costs for American families and businesses and ensure that the US remains competitive globally.

Tethon 3D expands ceramic materials

Tethon 3D has expanded its product offerings of ceramic materials for 3D printing. Specially formulated clay powders now available include earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain. These powders, along with liquid binder, are optimized for use on any powder-based 3D printer. Clients may send digital files to Tethon 3D for 3D printing service using any of these materials. Items will be fired to a bisque state and may be further processed with any commercial glaze.

BLS reports glass import prices continue to trend down while export prices head up

Import prices for glass and glassware edged down for the third straight month, seeing a 0.1 percent decrease from April to May, according to the latest release of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) Import and Export Price Indexes. Import prices saw a 0.3 percent drop the month prior, following a 0.2 percent dip from February to March. Prices were still 1.3 percent higher in May 2014 than the same time last year, as the import index sat at 129.5.

Oerlikon sets out for growth path with new surface solutions segment

Oerlikon announced the successful closing of the transaction to acquire Metco from Sulzer AG ahead of schedule. Oerlikon announced on January 31, 2014 an agreement to acquire Metco for CHF 1.0 billion. Including a consolidation of Metco for seven months, the group expects 2014 fiscal year order intake and sales to grow exceeding 10% and 15%, respectively, of 2013 values.

Turkish company to invest EUR 8.8M in auto glass plant in Svilengrad

Turkish company Dubleks Glass plans to open an auto glass manufacturing plant in Svilengrad. The company plans to use a deserted industrial building of the textile factory Menderes in the city for the new plant. A representative says that the company seeks to start production in September. Apart from automotive glass, the plant is also to manufacture flat glass for refrigerators.
