Horn Glass Industries acquires Eurox

Horn Glass Industries has added a new subsidiary, Eurox Sauerstoff Mess-Systeme GmbH, including the relevant know-how as well as its equipment. Eurox supplies specially engineered oxygen measuring probe heads for high-temperature application in industrial furnaces, e.g. glass melting plants. The company has also supplied a furnace to South African container glass group Nampak Glass. The regenerative end-fired Furnace Number 3 was built between April and June this year, is designed for an output of 400 tonnes per day of bottles in flint, green and amber colours.

Saint-Gobain to set up joint venture with Central Glass in Indonesia

Saint-Gobain and Central Glass have signed an agreement to create a 50/50 joint venture in Indonesia that will specialise in automotive glass. A plant will be built east of Jakarta to meet the Indonesian automotive market’s rapid growth and is scheduled to commence production in 2016, with an annual production capacity of 500,000 windshields.

ACI to slash 60 jobs

Glassmaker ACI is going to cut another 60 jobs in Adelaide’s West Croydon plant as a consequence of shutting down another furnace, because of a slowdown in the wine export industry. Parent company O-I Australia said demand for locally-made products had fallen and the plant would go from a double to a single furnace from next week. They already shut a tank down with about 50 job losses about 18 months ago, in what once was a three-furnaces plant.

Flat glass plant planned for southern Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan and Iran are going to build a plant for production and processing of flat glass in Kyzylorda, southern Kazakhstan. The agreement has been signed by Investment Fund of Kazakhstan and Kaveh Glass Industry Group, the largest manufacturer of glass products in Iran and throughout the Middle East. Kazakhstan’s share in the project will made 49 percent, the Iranian company will get the controlling 51 percent stake.

Ardagh uses profits from Anchor Glass sale to pay down debt

Ardagh used €365 million raised from the sale of a U.S. business earlier this summer to pay off some of its €3 billion debt. Earlier this year, Ardagh agreed with the U.S. competition watchdog to sell Florida-based Anchor Glass to KPS Capital Partners as part of a settlement that would allow the Irish group to buy the much larger Verallia North America (VNA) for €1.27 billion.

Salafchegan to serve as Iran’s glassware hub

Salafchegan Special Economic Zone in the Qom Province will become Iran’s hub for producing glassware and Chinaware products with the start of construction operations for setting up 700 distribution and production units. The units will be built in a 100 ha-land with the investment of over USD 470 million by the private sector. 

AGC Europe signs letter of intent with Obeikan Glass

The European branch of AGC Glass, AGC Europe, has signed a Letter of Intent to enter into a joint venture with the Saudi Arabian glass company Obeikan Glass. The joint venture is to open a solar glass coating manufacturing plant by the start of 2016, to be built in Yanbu.
