Vidrala makes bid for Encirc

Spanish container glass manufacturer Vidrala has presented an offer to purchase Encirc Limited, which has activities in the U.K. and Ireland. Encirc has production sites in Derrylin, Ireland and Elton, U.K., and has produced container glass since the end of the 1990s.

Preiss-Daimler to acquire Johns Manville’s glass textiles business

Johns Manville and Preiss-Daimler announced that a Preiss-Daimler group company will acquire Johns Manville’s Glass Textiles business in Sweden. The business is a leading supplier of superior glass wall coverings in the European markets, including woven as well as nonwoven products.

Saint-Gobain won’t combine mortar business with Sika 

Saint-Gobain is not prepared to combine its mortar business with that of takeover target Sika, the head of the French building materials group said in a newspaper, despite a walkout threat by the Swiss company’s management. The family that owns a controlling stake in chemicals business Sika has agreed to sell its shares to Saint-Gobain, but Sika’s board and management have said they will quit if the sale goes through in its current form.
