Anchor Hocking owner files for bankruptcy
The owner of Anchor Hocking glassmaker, EverywhereWare Global, has filed for bankruptcy. The U.S. company said the financial restructuring will cancel $248 million of the company’s long-term debt. The company was formed in March 2012 by the merger of Anchor Hocking and Oneida but has been in financial crisis since early 2014 when it revealed larger-than-expected losses.
FEVE EU container glass production records solid growth
The European container glass industry had solid growth in 2014, according to recent FEVE data. In the EU28, production volume increased by 1.6% and more than 22 million tons or some 50 billion glass containers were sold to customers inside and outside EU markets.
Nasir Float Glass signs 600t/d production project
Bengal company Nasir Float Glass Industries has signed a contract with China Triumph International Engineering Company (CTIEC) for the construction of a 600t/d float glass production line.
New incident at Saint Gobain Neuburg facility
There has been a second incident in Neuburg facility of Saint Gobain Oberland after autumn last year. This time there was fire after an explosion in the compressor area, fire emerging from here creeped alongside the ceiling, however it was under immediate control by the plant fire brigade. Back in October 2014, a melting furnace suffered severe damage; a wall of the furnace to be taken out of operation suddenly broke and about 50 tons of glass streamed into the factory.
CTIEC signs contract for Algeria Adrar float glass project
On March 31, has been signed an EPC general-contracted project for Algeria Adrar 500t/d float glass production line between CTIEC of China and Algerian HAMEL Renewable Energy LLC. The project of Adrar 500t/d float glass production line is located at Adrar, south of Algeria.
Schott rebuilding after fire at Pennsylvania plant
The Schott Glass plant in Duryea, Pennsylvania, is beginning to come back online after a major fire earlier this month, according to a report from the Times Leader in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The fire broke out the evening of March 3, causing more than $50 million in damage and temporarily closing down operations, according to the news.
EABL to sell bottle-making subsidiary
East African Breweries Limited (EABL) is aimed to sell Central Glass Industries (CGI) of Nairobi, Kenya, to South Africa’s Consol Glass Proprietary. EABL, so far, has not disclosed the value of the planned sale.
