Arun Varshneya, a professor in glass science at Alfred University, discusses the differences among techniques used to strengthen glass, and focuses on the advantages of using salt baths to chemically strengthen glass. Chemically strengthened glass has applications in such areas as cellphone faceplates, transparent armor and hurricane-proof architectural glass. This is somewhat like a shorter version of the great lecture he gave at PACRIM8 in June 2009 (available as a video here) and the story he wrote for the Bulletin. 7 minutes.
