Klaus van Benthem is an Associate Professor for Materials Science and Engineering at the University of California, Davis. He obtained his PhD in Materials Science at the Max-Planck-Institute for Metals Research in Stuttgart, Germany. Together with his research group he specializes in the characterization of atomic scale defect structures and their evolution under applied stress fields. He employs aberration-corrected and in-situ electron microscopy to explore the effects of electric fields on ceramic microstructure evolution, and mechanisms of solid-state dewetting for metal/ceramic interfaces. Klaus has been serving as chair and co-chair of many symposia during past and future MS&T, PACRIM, and EMA conferences.
