Tyler Ley is the Williams’ Foundation Professor of Civil Engineering at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Oklahoma, USA.  He received his B.S. from Oklahoma State University, and M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.  He has more than 16 years of experience in the fields of cement based materials.  He has worked as an engineer with a design consultant, construction contractor, government agency, and as a professor.

Dr. Ley has published over 80 technical papers (55 peer-reviewed papers), 6 patents, and has graduated 8 doctoral and 28 MS thesis students.  His work has been the basis for national specifications, test methods, and commercial products to test concrete that is used in 35 states and six countries.  His research has focused on understanding and ultimately manipulating the early age behavior, mechanical properties, and long-term durability of cements through the development of sensors, testing equipment, and novel structure and chemical imaging.

He is a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute and has received the NSF Career Award, the American Concrete Institute Faculty Achievement Award, and the Regents Research Award from Oklahoma State University.  With ACerS he has served as the Secretary, Co-Chair, Chair of the Cements Division and organizer for two conferences.

He has created a research based curriculum that was co-designed with colleagues in the college of education that is currently used in five elementary schools in Oklahoma.  This curriculum reaches approximately 600 students per year and the YouTube videos have been watched over 90,000 times (www.engineeringiseverywhere.com).
