Professor Jianrong Qiu is currently chair professor at Zhejiang University, China. He received his Ph.D. in Materials Science from Okayama University, Japan.

Professor Qiu has published more than 600 papers in the peer-reviewed international journals e.g. Adv. Mater., Phys. Rev. Lett., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Appl. Phys. Lett., J. Apply. Phys., Opt. Lett., Opt. Express, and J. Am. Ceram. Soc. etc. His papers have been cited for more than 19,600 times (Web of Science) and his h factor is 69. He has given plenary lectures or invited talks at various international conferences e.g. EOCC, CLEO-PR, APLS, PNCS, GOMD etc. over 100 times. Professor Qiu has organized over 20 international conferences or symposiums e.g. ICG as a chair, co-chair or chair of the Organizing Committee.

He has been honored with an Academic Award from the Ceramic Society of Japan in 2007, Otto-Schott Research Award from the Ernst Abbe Fund, Germany in 2005, Kurata Award from the Ceramic Society of Japan in 2002, Outstanding Young Researcher Award from the Natural Science Foundation of China in 2001, and Adachi Award from the Rare-earth Society of Japan in 1999. He received the Honorary Doctoral Degree from Aalborg University, Denmark in 2016. Qiu is a member of the ACerS Glass & Optical Materials Division and received the G. W. Morey Award in 2015.

His research interests are light interaction with materials (Laser 3D printing and fs laser micro-processing), and optoelectronic materials especially glasses and glass ceramics, luminescent and nonlinear optical materials.
