HOYA starts to build next-gen HDD glass substrate production facility

Japanese optical glass maker Hoya Corp. started construction of its new production facility for hard drive platter glass substrates. These substrates could be used to make conventional 2.5-inch HDD platters as well as next-generation platters for hard drives that use energy-assisted magnetic recording technologies.

China’s exports of rare earths shrink 3.5% YoY in January

China’s exports of rare earths stood at 3,752.9 mt in January 2019, down 3.5 percent from 3,889.7 mt in January 2018, showed the latest data from China Customs. Exports of rare earths were 5,421 mt in December 2018.
