With the rise of science and technology, there is a growing trend toward the expanding importance of ceramic materials, which are not only resistant to heat and chemically stable but also have a wide variety of functions. However, simply seeking for new functions is now considered routine, and it has been demanded to develop safe and secure ceramic materials for the next generation, considering the pursuit of environmental conservation and development. This symposium covers a variety of topics for the realization of novel and environment-conscious ceramic materials.

The aim of this symposium is to discuss advanced functional ceramic materials such as environmental catalysts for emission control, semiconductors and porous materials such as chemical sensors, optical materials, for example mercury-free lamps (light emitting diodes: LEDs), environmentally friendly pigments and sunscreens free of toxic elements, and recovery and recycling of rare metals, critical materials, etc.
