Matthew J. Kerper passed away June 19, 2012.

Kerper earned his BS and MS degrees in ceramic engineering in 1922 and 1943, respectively, from the then-University of Missouri at Rolla. He also held a masters in engineering administration from George Washington University, which he gained in 1959. Kerper spent the time between his ceramic engineering degrees with the Army Corps of Engineers.

Kerper was associated with the Laclede–Christy Co. and later joined the National Bureau of Standards (now NIST) as an aerospace engineer. He was a frequent author on fractography topics.

Kerper joined The American Ceramic Society in 1953 and was affiliated with the Society’s Glass & Optical Materials Division and NICE.
