Version 4.1 includes 26,500 phase diagrams with full commentary text display, 1,656 new phase diagrams and 778 new figures, and 5,000 electronic-only diagrams for ceramic and inorganic systems. The new browser-based interface includes help icons at each user-input location. In addition to the previously available search criteria (chemical system, author, etc.) users are now able to perform keyword searches of the critical evaluations of all 18,644 entries, allowing them to associate material systems with potential applications mentioned in the text.  In addition, all 26,500 diagrams in the collection are now present in an updated format using the new PED Editor program, enabling all diagrams to be printed as high-quality .pdf files. The PED Editor is a custom-developed Java program which uses the iText open-source PDF file generation library, Batik open-source SVG file generation library, Jackson open-source JSON file generation library, and the JAMA Java Matrix package.

Phase Equilibria Diagrams

“Trying to work without consulting a phase diagram first is like trying to travel without a map – and ACerS is the best source of maps around – it’s the Rand McNally Atlas of ceramics.”

-McKinley Marketing, Inc. survey

Phase diagram applications

Use phase diagrams when experimenting or researching thermal-barrier coatings, nuclear reactors, photovoltaics, pigments, fuel cells, catalysts, capacitors, transducers, thermoluminescence, molten-salt batteries, photovoltaics, electrolytic refining, and more.  The data are pertinent to a wide variety of applications including optoelectronics, thermal-barrier coatings, sensors, energy converters, nuclear-waste reprocessing, nuclear-reactor technology, photovoltaics, pigments, fuel cells, catalysts, thermoelectrics, capacitors, transducers, thermoluminescence, molten-salt batteries, photovoltaics, electrolytic refining, and semiconductor manufacturing.  The new figures are labeled as Volume 19 in this release.

New phase diagram DVD content includes:

Oxide and mixed systems with oxides – electrode processing, catalysis, electroceramics, magneto-resistors, thermistors, capacitors, nuclear fuel and nuclear waste, ionic conductors, fuel-cell electrolytes

Chalcogenides – semiconducting sulfides, selenides and tellurides for thermoelectrics, optoelectronics, photovoltaics

Pnictide systems – nitrides, phosphides, arsenides, bismuthides, and antimonides for bandgap-engineered optical materials, electron-transport devices, sensors, detectors, photovoltaics, thermoelectrics

Actinides – U, Pu, Th

Actinide-surrogates – Ce

Oxycation systems – molybdates and vanadates

Semiconductors – Si, Ge, Sn

Group 3 systems – B, Al, Ga, In, Tl

Salts – including mixed systems with salts

Security update for 4.0 owners

Version 4.0 utilizes Java for the diagram viewer functionality. The security certificate has expired, which will prevent you from viewing diagrams. A one-time fix will easily remedy this situation and restore full functionality, but please let us know if you still have trouble viewing. Here’s how to update the Java certificate:

  1. Open Java Configuration
  2. Select the Security tab
  3. Click the “Edit Site List…” button. Click the “Add” button and type the following web address, then click OK: http://localhost:7000
    1. It will tell you that it isn’t a good idea.  Do it anyway.  There is no risk to your computer.
  4. Click the “OK” button in the Java Control Panel

If you’re having trouble, visit this site for detailed instructions and screen shots.
