Geoff Brennecka is on the move.
Brennecka, currently a principal member of the technical staff at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, N.M., will join the faculty at Colorado School of Mines (CSM) on August 18 as an assistant professor at CSM’s Colorado Center for Advanced Ceramics (CCAC). His work will focus on the area of electrical ceramics, particularly ferroelectrics and piezoelectrics.
“It’s difficult to leave Sandia and my wonderful colleagues in Albuquerque, but it’s time for the next chapter in my career,” says Brennecka. “I’m excited about the opportunity to devote more time to education and hope that I can help continue the strong ceramics tradition at Mines.”
“We are excited to have him because his expertise adds an important dimension of ceramic materials to Mines that currently doesn’t exist,” says Ivar Reimanis, CSM professor and CCAC director (who also happens to be a member of ACerS 2014 Class of Fellows). “Furthermore, Geoff is a young leader in ceramics who will inspire the next generation of ceramic scientists and engineers.”
Brennecka, who helped launch ACerS President’s Council of Student Advisors and Young Professionals Network, was previously an adjunct professor at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology and at his alma mater, Missouri University of Science & Technology. At the conclusion of MS&T14 in October, he will begin a three-year term as a member of ACerS Board of Directors and a one-year term as vice chair of the Electronics Division.
