GE Aviation celebrates opening of NC factory

GE Aviation is celebrating the opening of its new advanced composites factory near Asheville, N.C. with a ceremony featuring state and local leaders. The new 170,000-square-foot facility will be the first in the world to mass produce engine components made of advanced ceramic matrix composite materials.

Geberit bids $1.4B for toilet manufacturer Sanitec

Geberit AG, the Swiss maker of bathroom piping, offered about $1.4 billion to buy Finnish ceramic toilet maker Sanitec in what would be CFO Albert Baehny’s biggest acquisition. Shareholders of Sanitec will receive 97 kronor per share, valuing the business at 9.7 billion kronor.

Weir Minerals announces acquisition of Trio

IBM to pay $1.5B to shed its costly chip division

IBM will pay $1.5 billion to Globalfoundries in order to shed its costly chip division. IBM Director of Research John E. Kelly III said in an interview Monday that handing over control of the semiconductor operations will allow it to grow faster, while IBM continues to invest in and expand its chip research.

Morgan’s Molten Metal Systems business announced HotRod pyrometry sheaths and other pyrometer assembly products, which protect thermocouples in furnace heating control systems. The pyrometer assemblies are made of a durable, erosion-resistant clay-graphite mix with special plasticity properties.
