GE Aviation is celebrating the opening of its new advanced composites factory near Asheville, N.C. with a ceremony featuring state and local leaders. The new 170,000-square-foot facility will be the first in the world to mass produce engine components made of advanced ceramic matrix composite materials.
Geberit bids $1.4B for toilet manufacturer Sanitec
Geberit AG, the Swiss maker of bathroom piping, offered about $1.4 billion to buy Finnish ceramic toilet maker Sanitec in what would be CFO Albert Baehny’s biggest acquisition. Shareholders of Sanitec will receive 97 kronor per share, valuing the business at 9.7 billion kronor.

Weir Minerals announces acquisition of Trio
Weir Group PLC has entered into an agreement to acquire Trio Engineered Products, a Chinese-American manufacturer of crushing and separation equipment for the mining and aggregates markets, for an enterprise value of $220 million. Integration costs are expected to total $10 million over a two-year period.
IBM to pay $1.5B to shed its costly chip division
IBM will pay $1.5 billion to Globalfoundries in order to shed its costly chip division. IBM Director of Research John E. Kelly III said in an interview Monday that handing over control of the semiconductor operations will allow it to grow faster, while IBM continues to invest in and expand its chip research.
