PPG Foundation donates $120,000 to Penn State Materials Research program

The PPG Industries Foundation has donated $120,000 to the Pennsylvania State University for its Materials Research Institute Student Assistantship Program and additional programming. This marks the third year the PPG foundation has supported Penn State undergraduate students participating in the 10-week summer program, this year funding eight fellowships as well as one graduate student for a full year’s research along with additional student opportunities.

Avalon starts pilot plant program on lithium separation project

Avalon Rare Metals Inc. announced that a $750,000 pilot plant program has commenced on the company’s Separation Rapids Lithium Project located near Kenora, Ontario. The 2015 pilot plant program will provide a trial of the new lithium minerals process flow sheet developed at the bench scale over the past year. A total of 30 tonnes of crushed ore will be shipped to a laboratory in Germany for processing to produce a minimum of 1 tonne of pure lithium mineral (petalite) concentrate.

Vitro announces expansion of production capacity for flat glass

Vitro, S.A.B. de C.V., the leading glass producer in Mexico, announced expansion of its production capacity of flat glass through construction of a new float glass furnace, which it is estimated to become operational in 2017. This furnace will be added to the current capacity of three furnaces. In addition to this expansion, the float glass furnace operating in Mexicali will enter a repairing phase in mid-2016 that will also be used to expand its production capacity.

Europe, US may invest in Iran glass industry

German, Italian, and U.S. companies have indicated readiness to invest in Iran’s glass manufacturing industry, head of the Iranian Glass and Crystal Producers Association says. They made their intentions known to Iranian officials during visits by European delegations to Tehran recently in the wake of last month’s conclusion of nuclear negotiations, local media quoted Ahmad Amir-Ahmadi as saying.
