AGC Glass Europe signs letter of intent with Obeikan Glass

Asahi Glass Co. announces that its consolidated subsidiary AGC Glass Europe has signed a letter of intent with Obeikan Glass Company, a Saudi Arabian glass manufacturer, to establish a solar control glass coating joint venture. The processing line for temperable solar control glass coating will be built in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, where Obeikan Glass already operates the largest float glass plant in the Gulf region.

Pilkington IGP to invest in Poland

NSG Group, a producer of glass for the construction and the automotive sector, has made up its mind about a new investment in Poland. Pilkington IGP, one of the three subsidiaries of the group present in Poland, has acquired the firm Polskie Szyby Termoizolacyjne (PST) from Ostrołęka. 

Owens-Illinois plant in Waco plans $8 million in upgrades

The Owens-Illinois glass plant in Waco, Tx., has secured a permit to spend another $8 million as it continues to upgrade the decades-old plant and improve its ability to control emissions. This is the continuation of a multi-year investment in the Waco plant that O-I announced in late 2012. Once the work is done, Owens-Illinois will have spent about $74 million to keep beer-bottle production flowing. The plant opened in 1944 and employs about 300 people, the vast majority of them union members.

Kenmare Resources sees record output during first half of 2014

Kenmare Resources announced a record output of ilmenite and primary zircon achieved from the Moma mine, in Mozambique, during the first half of this year. Ilmenite production jumped 47 percent to 445,600 t during the first half of 2014. Production in April and May had been impacted on by scheduled upgrades to the nonmagnetic circuits in the mineral separation plant designed to deliver increased zircon and rutile recoveries. Kenmare noted that the work had been successfully concluded, with total zircon production increasing to 5 400 t in June.
