Owens-Illinois completes San Polo plant project
Owens-Illinois (O-I) has completed renovation work on its San Polo plant in Italy, spending a total of €55m over the past four years. O-I has invested €40 million in a new furnace, four production lines, and inspection equipment, on top of a €15 million investment in 2011, to upgrade a furnace and production lines. The recent expansion has created 30 new jobs at the site.
New furnace to increase Beatson Clark’s amber capacity
A new amber glass furnace has gone into production at Beatson Clark after a £6.5 million building project was completed. The melting area in the furnace has been increased by more than 6m² and can produce around 200 tonnes of glass per day; this latest project is just part of a major £10 million investment which Beatson Clark has made in plant and equipment at its South Yorkshire site this year.
Glass Technology Services leads £1.5 million nuclear partnership for novel ILW glass vitrification
Independent research and development, consultancy, and testing facility, Glass Technology Services Ltd is leading a £1.5 million project partnership with Sellafield Ltd, the National Nuclear Laboratory, and the University of Sheffield to revolutionise the processing of intermediate level wastes. Aiming to formulate novel glasses together with a new melting technology, capable of vitrifying a wide range of intermediate level radioactive waste streams, the Hazmelt project will offer great improvements for dealing with these wastes.
Nippon Electric Glass plans LED substrates glass factory in Xiamen
One of the three biggest companies in the LED substrate glass manufacturing industry, the Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd., will build a LED substrates glass factory in Xiamen’s Torch High-Tech Zone. With a total investment of RMB 4.14 billion, the factory will be located next to AU Optronics. The first phase of the factory is expected to be put into operation by the end of 2015.
