2012 CEC Outstanding Educator Award

Do you know a ceramic educator who deserves to be recognized for truly outstanding work and creativity in teaching, in directing student research, or in the general educational process?  Then nominate that person for the Ceramic Educational Council’s Outstanding Educator Award.   Nomination deadline is April 15, 2012. 

 

 

 

ED Henry and Hoffman awards: nominations open

The Electronics Division requests nominations for the Henry and Hoffman awards:  

 

Edward C. Henry Best Paper Award: deadline July 31, 2012

The Henry Award is given annually to an outstanding paper reporting original work in the Journal of the American Ceramic Society or the Bulletin during the previous calendar year on a subject related to electronic ceramics. 

 

Lewis C. Hoffman Scholarship: deadline July 31, 2012
The $2000 Hoffman Scholarship is awarded to a junior-year undergraduate student in ceramics/materials science and engineering to encourage academic interest and excellence. Applicants are required to write a 500-word essay on the topic “Environmentally benign electronic ceramics.”

Student travel support opportunities at ICC4


The National Science Foundation and corporate sponsors, Ceradyne and Wiley, have made 18 travel grants available for students to attend the 4th International Congress on Ceramics, July 15 - 19 in Chicago, Ill. Each travel award will consist of $1050 in travel funds, plus complimentary student registration at ICC4.


Eligibility

  • Graduate or undergraduate student
  • Must submit a 100-150 word abstract for the Interactive Technology Forum.
  • Maximum of two travel grants per university


Nomination Process

Submit the following to Tricia Freshour by February 15, 2012:

  1. A 1-2 page curriculum vita
  2. A 100-150 word abstract (Do not submit to the ICC site until selected)
  3. Statement by the student about how they would benefit from attending ICC4
  4. Letter of recommendation from a faculty member or research scientist who can describe the student’s leadership potential in developing international relations.

Awardees will be notified by March 15, 2012. After selection, abstracts must be submitted on the ICC4 abstract site before March 31, 2012.


RCD members: submit a paper for March 2012 St. Louis meeting

Attention RCD members: there are still open slots on the St. Louis Section/RCD 48th Annual Symposium agenda.  Please consider submitting a paper. This year’s meeting theme is ”Refractories for Non-Ferrous Applications.”  The meeting will be held in St. Louis, Missouri, at the Hilton St. Louis Airport Hotel from March 28-29, 2012.  Co-program chairs are Ben Markel of Resco Products and Rick Solak of Wahl Refractories.  Contact Ben if you are interested in giving a paper.  More meeting details are on the RCD webpage, or contact Patty Smith.  

 

Nominations requested for GOMD Stookey, Morey, Kreidl awards

The Glass and Optical Materials Division invites nominations for the Stookey Lecture of Discovery Award,
the George W. Morey Award, and the Norbert J. Kreidl Award for Young Scholars.  The deadline for nominations for all three awards is FEBRUARY 22, 2012.  Visit the awards page for information on the nomination process for Stookey and Kreidl, and contact John Ballato about how to submit a Morey nomination.
