S8: Advances in Memory Devices

Current and future data storage systems incorporate a wide range of technologies, such as resistive media, phase change materials, ferroelectrics, spin torque transfer, flash, etc. Optimizing their size, performance, and energy consumption thus presents a variety of fundamental and technical challenges for the ceramic community, including both specific and common issues. Sessions will therefore focus on new developments in materials fabrication, switching performance, system design, and operation, with abstracts encouraged on miniaturization, ultimate switching speeds, device reliability, power consumption, manufacturing, or packaging. Presentations on multidisciplinary challenges and solutions are particularly sought, addressing overlaps between materials properties, physical principles, bit cell designs, process integration, and/or system architecture. To guide future academic research and development, and to facilitate informal discussions, submissions from industrial researchers are especially encouraged.
