Materials Challenges in Alternative & Renewable Energy 2012

Materials Challenges in Energy 2012

Final Program

Meeting Description

MCARE 2012 facilitates information sharing on the latest developments involving materials for alternative and renewable energy systems. Emphasis will be on materials challenges and innovations in areas of solar energy, wind power, hydro, geothermal, biomass, nuclear, hydrogen, electric grid, materials availability, nanocomposites/nanomaterials, and battery and energy storage. Download the Final Program now then build your conference schedule with Itinerary Planner. Take advantage of the Ride and Drive Program while at MCARE 2012. Test drive the Chevy Volt or the Toyota Fuel Cell Hybrid Vehicle from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Who Should Attend

MCARE 2012 is intended for not only scientists and engineers active in energy and materials science research, but also for those new to the field. Visit the Symposia section to learn more about the technical program or review the Schedule for more information. MCARE 2012 is a follow-up to Materials Challenges in Alternative & Renewable Energy 2010. Review the Technical Advisory Board and Topic Champions.

Student Contests and Free Student Registration

Students: Learn about two new student contests and how to get free registration for MCARE 2012.

Materials for Energy Conversion Contest: Student teams work together to build an energy device at their university, then use it to attempt to move water up a vertical distance using contest-supplied energy sources. Teams have 5 minutes to set up their system and 10 minutes to move as much of the water as possible during the conference. The contest is open to both graduate and undergraduate students. Faculty and other non-students may advise, but students must do all the design, assembly and testing on the system. The team that moves the most amount of water is the winner.  View the official contest rules. Contact Cory Bomberger with questions.
