Materials for Clean Energy Technologies

Dr. Chandra P. Khattak
Vice President, Technology
ARC Energy, Nashua, NH

Materials are key for adaptation of clean energy technologies adaptation. This is true for new energy generation as well as energy conservation. Production of silicon tailored for photovoltaic application is an excellent example for adapting new technologies and putting them into commercial mode for large scale power generation. Similarly, production of sapphire crystals for light emitting diodes (LEDs) applications is an example for energy conservation. Happenings for over thirty years in silicon and sapphire areas will be reviewed and changes required to meet the goals will be discussed.
