During the Electronic Materials Application (EMA) meeting in Orlando, members of the Young Professionals Network met and discussed four main focus areas for ACerS Young Professionals Network in 2010:

  • Recruitment: Identifying and attracting young professionals to become ACerS members and getting current members involved with the YPN
  • Networking: Helping YPN members connect with others in the Society
  • Leadership and Training: Developing programs and resources specifically designed for young professionals
  • Awards: Recognition of exemplary young professionals at ACerS meetings

As one of the outcomes of this meeting, the YPN will be working on a recognition process for accomplished young professionals this year. The plan is to have two awards that will be given specifically to young professionals every year. Look for more information to come in the Bulletin and on the In Focus blog as well as the Young Professionals webpage. In addition to the planning meeting at EMA, many of the YPs joined together with graduate students to attend a reception hosted in Board President Ed Fuller’s suite. More than 50 students, emerging leaders and society veterans came to the reception for a successful night of networking.
