The January/February 2020 issue of ACerS Bulletin is now available online.
In this month’s issue, we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the discovery of ferroelectric materials. In the cover story, authors Geoff Brennecka, Rachel Sherbondy, Robert Schwartz, and Jon Ihlefeld look at the physics that makes ferroelectric materials so useful and the abundant applications of ferroelectrics, including key papers published in ACerS journals and the Bulletin. An accompanying article by author Susan Trolier-McKinstry discusses how ferroelectric materials drive a $7 billion industry.
The “Business and Market View” and “Deciphering the Discipline” columns expand on this theme by digging deep into the projected growth of the lead-free piezoelectric ceramics market through 2024 and the development of ferroelectric nitrides for communications technologies.
The January/February issue includes an interview with Tatsuki Ohji, ACerS new president for 2020. Ohji tells us how an interesting job opportunity at the Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology led to his work in ceramics, and he outlines his plans for the Society this year, including ACerS Annual Meeting at MS&T, international growth, and diversity and inclusion.
Also, this issue features highlights from ACerS 121st Annual Business Meeting at MS&T19, plus a preview of the 6th Ceramics Expo coming in May.
Finally, learn about the recent recipients of the National Science Foundation CAREER Ceramic Program awards and check out the decadal overview of the program in a report by author Lynnette D. Madsen.
You’ll find a lot more interesting content inside this—and every issue—of the ACerS Bulletin. The current issue is free to all for a short time, but remember that all the valuable content in over ninety years of past issues of the ACerS Bulletin is free only to members—so considering joining us today!
