The ACerS Germany Chapter hosted two esteemed international researchers from Brazil and India in May 2023 as part of their collaborative activities between ACerS and the Materials Research Society (MRS).
At the beginning of May, Caue Ribeiro, senior researcher at Embrapa Instrumentation in Brazil, delivered a presentation on strategies aimed at mitigating environmental impact through the conversion of carbon dioxide and methane into valuable chemicals. His research primarily focuses on the development of technologies that can effectively reduce the atmospheric emissions of these two prominent greenhouse gases, which possess the highest potential for inducing global warming. Such endeavors are crucial for fostering a sustainable future.
The second guest, rer. nat. Ravi Kumar N.V., serves as head of the Department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology-Madras. He presented his research group’s work on single crystal elastic constants (SECs). SECs play a fundamental role in comprehending the deformation behavior of materials and determining the elastic resistance of single crystals to external forces. Ravi Kumar, in collaboration with his students, devised a technique employing X-ray diffraction measurements to determine SECs during the 3D deformation of metals.
