Rui Novais, assistant professor at the University of Aveiro (Portugal), will deliver a lecture highlighting the critical role of ceramic materials in promoting sustainability. Drawing on insights from the recently launched book “Materiais e Sustentabilidade” (2024), co-authored with João Labrincha (University of Aveiro) and Dachamir Hotza (Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Brazil), this presentation will explore innovative ceramic applications to mitigate environmental impacts, enhance energy efficiency, and support green technologies.

The lecture will reflect on challenges and strategies for achieving sustainability in material usage, addressing implications for industrial practices and the development of alternative energy solutions. The unique properties of ceramics, which position them as key contributors to addressing global sustainability issues, will be emphasized. Cutting-edge applications in sustainable construction, wastewater treatment, renewable energy, and waste management will also be showcased.
