More than 40 people attended the workshop titled “The thousand lives of glass” on May 17, 2019, on the island of Murano, Venice, Italy. The event, co-sponsored by the ACerS Italy Chapter and the SSV (Stazione Sperimentale del Vetro, the Italian reference centre for glass technology), featured a number of experts from industry and academia for a full immersion into advanced applications of glasses.

The day-long conference showcased presentations that focused on a wide range of glass applications for advanced glasses, from photonics and biomedicine to energy saving and waste management, for example.

Murano glasses have been well-known for centuries. According to Monica Ferraris, co-chair of the ACerS Italy Chapter, “It was just amazing to talk about new applications of this exciting material! We are going to organize another ‘Thousand lives of glass’ workshop in Murano in a couple of years.”
