ACerS Pittsburgh Section presented the William S. Bates Award to Section Member Glenn McIntyre on Monday, August 24, 2024, at the Sectional Golf Outing, at the Birdsfoot Golf Course in Freepost, PA. The award was presented by Eric Young. The award recognizes individuals who further the efforts of the Pittsburgh Section as well as the local community. Glenn has been active with the Section for over 20 years and is currently serving as the Treasurer. His favorite activity turned out to be the Future City competition for junior high school students. Glenn cherished judging the special award for best use of ceramics, where in just 5 minutes, he would get the students to enthusiastically shout out “CERAMICS” when identifying what every part of their future world will be made of. Glenn has recently retired from Harbison Walker International as the Director – Fired Shape Technology. Bates, for whom the award is named, was heavily involved in the Society. He was a member of the Section for 48 years and served as Section counselor for 25 years.
