Change is inevitable, and several changes are in process for the ACerS journals.

New managing editor

Brittney Hauke

First, I would like to introduce myself, Brittney Hauke, as the new ACerS journals managing editor. I received my Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from The Pennsylvania State University, where I studied glass relaxation via thermal analysis.

I have been involved with the Society for many years, including as part of the President’s Council of Student Advisors as well as attending several meetings and publishing in JACerS and IJAGS. Thus, I know the importance of these journals, and I look forward to assisting authors, readers, reviewers, and editors as we move into the next phase of journal publication.

Journals adopt online-only format and continuous publication

Beginning with the next issues, all ACerS journals will be published online only. Being online only increases our flexibility to utilize new technologies to deliver content, such as embedded videos, to provide a fuller experience for our readers. For those who enjoy scanning tables of contents, you can continue the practice online, where graphical abstracts provide greater insights than titles alone.

Along with online-only publication, all journals will transition to the continuous publication model employed by many journals today. In continuous publication, articles are automatically assigned full citation information upon completion of the version-of-record. The “Early View” page will be eliminated, and each article is placed into the next issue on a first-in-first-out basis.

With this change, articles will no longer be organized into categories. Furthermore, articles for a specific topic will be curated within the Topical Collections section of the ACerS Publications Central website.

Next steps in ReX transition

Our next change mainly affects our authors, reviewers, and editors. Shortly after the conclusion of ACerS Annual Meeting at MS&T, JACerS and IJACT will join IJAGS and IJCES in transitioning from ScholarOne to the Research Exchange (ReX) Reviews platform for manuscript review management. This system provides greater support and automation with highly intuitive dashboards and other interfaces between the users and the manuscript under review.

There will be a transitional period during which both packages will be utilized. Manuscripts within ScholarOne will continue to be managed using that software, while new submissions will be managed through ReX Reviews. We ask for your patience and understanding as we complete this transition, and there are resources online at the links below to assist in the process.
