The October/November 2025 issue of ACerS Bulletin is now available online.

In this month’s issue, we look at research and markets in the Republic of Korea. The cover story by Randy Hecht shows how the Korean government, in partnership with leading research institutes, is focusing domestic scientific endeavors on two major global transformations: the rise of artificial intelligence and the ongoing climate crisis. In-depth market snapshots of Korean trades, treaties, and tariffs are included.

A second feature story by Wilhelm Klein looks at how synthetic data is emerging as a way to bypass much of the uncertainty and delay inherent in real-world data collection, with examples drawn from U.K.-based quality control company Zetamotion. A third feature story by Mario Affatigato reveals the hidden history of how glass fascinated some of the great scientific minds of the past five centuries.

In addition to the feature stories, the “Journal Highlights” column by ACerS retired journals managing editor Jonathon Foreman describes some recent advances by Korean researchers involving the engineering and processing of semiconductor materials. The “Deciphering the Discipline” column by student Dipta Pal overviews industrial decarbonization initiatives in Korea.

This issue’s Industry section features three columns focused on next steps for several computer and electronic technologies. The “Business and Market View” column overviews the global market for edge artificial intelligence, a system for processing data closer to where the data is generated. The “Industry Perspectives” column by Yilong Yin and Yi Yang describes ways to reduce carbon emissions in the semiconductor industry. The “Industry Insights” column by David Holthaus explores how lessons learned from the rollout of 5G technology can help guide 6G preparations.

Finally, ACerS member Petrina Okrah shares her thoughts on the need to reimagine ceramics education to enable more equitable access to ceramics careers in the “Letter to the Editor.”
