The June/July 2025 issue of ACerS Bulletin is now available online.

In this month’s issue, we explore examples of climate-resilient construction. The cover story by David Jensen looks at the historical and current uses of clay roof tiles to protect against wildfire. A second feature story by Randy Hecht contains a roundup of standards, materials, and designs to optimize building resiliency.

A third feature story by Xufei Fang provides a brief history of dislocations in ceramics with the aim of inspiring readers, especially students, to rethink engineering of ceramic materials. Meanwhile, the “Journal Highlights” column by Jonathon Foreman highlights ACerS journal papers that aim to reduce environmental impact during construction through various methods, including reduced energy consumption, substitution of low-carbon and recycled materials for carbonaceous minerals, and use of local resources.

The June/July issue also contains the annual “Emerging Professionals” section, which showcases young ACerS members along every step of their journey. The three parts of this section include

In addition to the “Emerging Professionals” section, the annual Kreidl award abstract by postdoctoral researcher Jayani Kalahe describes the use of molecular dynamics simulations to investigate structure–property relationships in iron phosphate nuclear waste glasses.

This issue’s Industry section features three columns focused on technologies to help monitor and preserve the environment. The “Business and Market View” column overviews the global market for environmental sensing and monitoring technologies. The “Industry Perspectives” column showcases the first voluntary Biodiversity Report by France-based multinational group Imerys S.A., which provides a clear roadmap of scientific strategies and concrete actions that can be taken to help preserve natural heritage. The “Industry Insights” column by David Holthaus describes the growing potential of fiber-based environmental monitoring.

Finally, meet the incoming ACerS officers and Board members for 2025–2026.
