Mark Morelock, Chiz Brothers and ACerS Pittsburgh Section chair, and Cheryl Richards, ACerS Pittsburgh Section secretary and communications officer, attended Penn State’s Materials Science and Engineering Department’s (MatSE) 24th annual awards banquet to present the J. Earl Frazier Memorial Scholarship.
The banquet recognizes students, postdoctoral researchers, staff, faculty, and alumni for achievements in the classroom, laboratory, and community.
Following dinner, the 2026 scholarship was awarded to Evan Moffett, a junior specializing in glass science. A consistent Dean’s List student, Moffet supports polymer research in the Colby Polymer Laboratory where he conducts rheological measurements on low-viscosity materials. He also serves as the undergraduate trainer for the lab’s rheology equipment.
Moffett will join Corning Inc. in their Wilmington research center as a 2026 summer intern focusing on optical fiber manufacturing. He received first place for the J. Earl Frazier Scholarship Award.
Jacob Akana of Case Western Reserve University received second place. Both recipients were recognized in the ACerS April Spotlight.
