The January/February 2022 issue of ACerS Bulletin is now available online.

In this month’s issue, two feature stories look at the future of renewable energy technologies. Author Richard Clark looks at opportunities for the ceramics community in the rapidly growing flow battery market, and authors Nguyen Q. Minh and Yoon Ho Lee overview recent technological advances that help move solid oxide fuel cells toward widespread applications.

In addition to the cover stories, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Manufacturing Office provides a synopsis of the programs AMO offers to support U.S. manufacturers. Also, the “Deciphering the Discipline” column by Rishabh Kundu looks at the plurality of thermoelectrics in application, and the “Business and Market View” column discusses factors driving the current global semiconductor chip shortage.

This volume (Vol. 101) of the ACerS Bulletin coincides with the United Nations International Year of Glass. A regular column highlighting the International Year will appear in each issue, and the first column outlines what the ACerS journals plan to do in recognition of IYoG.

Finally, meet ACerS new president, Elizabeth “Beth” Dickey. Dickey is Teddy & Wilton Hawkins Distinguished Professor and department head of materials science and engineering at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa. She will be the guest on ACerS’ podcast Ceramic Tech Chat in January.

You’ll find a lot more interesting content inside this—and every issue—of the ACerS Bulletin. The current issue is free to all for a short time, but remember that all the valuable content in more than one hundred years of past issues of the ACerS Bulletin is free only to members—so considering joining us today!
