ACerS is pleased to announce Ashutosh Kumar Dubey has been selected for Volunteer Spotlight, a program that recognizes a member who demonstrates outstanding service to The American Ceramic Society through volunteerism.
Dubey is associate professor and head of the Department of Ceramic Engineericng at Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi (IIT BHU). He received his M.S. in materials science and technology from IIT BHU and his Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. Following his doctoral studies, Dubey was awarded the prestigious Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan. He later served as a postdoctoral research associate at the same institute and as a visiting scholar at The University of Texas at San Antonio before joining IIT BHU in 2015.
Dubey has made pioneering contributions to materials for orthopedic applications. His research currently focuses on piezoelectric biomaterials, particularly electric field and surface charge-mediated biocompatibility of ceramics, piezoelectric biomaterials for self-powered medical devices, and nanoporous and functionally graded ceramics for orthopedic applications.
Dubey’s work has been recognized nationally and internationally. He is a recipient of the DST Ramanujan Fellowship (India, 2015–2020), the JSPS Fellowship (Japan, 2012–2014), and several Young Scientist Awards from professional societies including the Indian Ceramic Society (2015), the Indian Science Congress Association (2011–2012), and the Society for Biomaterials and Artificial Organs (2018). He was also awarded the JSPS Bridge Fellowship (2024–2025) for academic exchange with Japan.
Dubey is an active member of the Bioceramics Division, serving as secretary (2023–2024), vice chair (2024–2025), and now chair-elect (2025–2026). He is also an associate editor of International Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology.
